Agmatine with Arginine/Citrulline
Original post in this thread

I use Agmatine daily for depression, and while it works amazingly, I’ve read countering reports that taking it alongside Citrulline or Arginine negates its effects, which I also use for exercising. Is there a time period I can stick to, or should these substances be taken on different days?

No true consensus really, hopefully someone else can chime in with more info here.
The Nootropics Depot blog entry on nitric oxide mentions stacking them (as I mention in the post I linked) but most places say don't combine them. I usually trust ND over other places though.
/u/MisterYouAreSoDumb I normally try to avoid summoning you, but with so many conflicting views on this, your expertise would be greatly appreciated.

nNOS is neuronal nitric oxide synthase, which are found in nervous tissue and some fast-twitch muscle fibers. It's eNOS, or endothelial nitric oxide synthase, that is in the endothelium and leads to vasodilation. Agmatine targets eNOS, which is what you want for vasodilation. Yes, agmatine inhibits nNOS. However, that's what you want to happen. You want to favor eNOS as much as you can. In fact, too much nNOS inhibits axonal growth and repair. So inhibiting nNOS can be good. Agmatine is certainly the one to pick for central cognitive effects. However, citrulline malate or AAKG might be better if you are just looking for the peripheral workout effects. Now as to the idea they should not be combined, that's probably because of agmatine's inhibition of nNOS. That seems like an oversimplification to me, though. Inhibiting nNOS and favoring eNOS should lead to the best effects. If anything, you might not notice a significant difference on the combo. They certainly won't negate each other's effects, though. I can see what my product specialist thinks about it.
