Recommendation for the Nootropics Depot website

Original post in this thread

u/misteryouaresodumb I love your products and really appreciate the passion and effort you have put into your businesses over the years. I realize that your website has a blog post which defines your testing standards. However, I would recommend adding a link at the top so that it is easily referenced by new customers. The in-house testing/quality standards link at the bottom is small and hard to find. Another idea is to add an "about us" link at the top that details your quality testing and also includes why you do things the way you do and your efforts to improve the industry.

Another recommendation that I have is to offer a subscribe and save type feature to allow people to sign up to have their supplements auto ship on a recurring basis.

Thanks for the suggestions! We are in the process of planning a revamp of our lab testing blog. It will be a lot more comprehensive, and updated with all our new equipment and capabilities. We are even going to do some walk-through videos. Once we complete that, we will have a more prominent link to it on the site. We can also add some information in the about us for our wider efforts in the industry. Sometimes I forget that not everyone is a Redditor, and may not know all we are doing.

The subscribe and save we have thought about. The issue is that processing banks treat that as a higher risk. The dispute rates a much higher for subscriptions, since many people subscribe then forget about it and chargeback when they realize. Just remember, there are way more pieces of shit out there than you realize. You don't really know the scope of it till you have to deal with them every day. Do you know how much attempted fraud we have had just in the past month? between $50,000 and $100,000... That's not abnormal, either. We deal with it every single month. It's a constant battle we have to fight. If we lose, we get dropped by our card processor. Then nobody can buy from us. So we are very protective of that. Anything that might jeopardize that relationship I am VERY hesitant to try. It took me years of sitting in bank lobbies, losing processors and bank accounts, getting personally banned from multiple banks for life, and losing hundreds of thousands of dollars to find and build the relationship we have now with our bank. I can't express to you how much I don't want to have to go through that again. Ceretropic is gone because of it. I don't want ND to fall to the same fate. I wish things were different, but I am at the mercy of the system here in the US. Banks can just decided whatever they want for businesses, and we just have to accept it.

The other issue with subscriptions is that we would have to store your credit card information for that to work. This is a big risk for us, as storing sensitive information like that makes you a target. How it works right now is that you just have a secure SSL connection directly from your browser to our processing bank when checking out. Our internal systems never even sees your card info, much less stores it. So that is more secure for you. There's literally no way for someone to get into our systems and steal your card info. If we setup a subscription option, we would have to store that card info somewhere. That might not sound like a huge deal, but the liability there is pretty high. Hacking attempts are a common occurrence these days. Any barriers we can put in place to protect our customers and ourselves are a good idea. It's bad out there right now. We have had hundreds of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency stolen from us because of fraudsters. It's a daily thing we have to be vigilant with. I know it can look like everything is as right as daisies to customers, because that's our job. We make it easy and safe for you guys to order things, but we are constantly at war with bad actors in the background. I wish people were more honest, and I wish the world was a better place. However, I can't let idealism get in the way of reality. Running an Ecommerce business is very tough these days. Everyone is trying to screw you.
