The Myth of Human Adult Neurogenesis

What they were answering

We should all try to link directly to the published studies that articles/blogs are commenting on, rather than the articles/blogs themselves, as to avoid misleading people.

I linked to the blog because I initially didn't have access to the actual study (only the abstract). The blog brings out details in the paper that aren't covered in the abstract. People should be smart enough to only consider the data given in the blog and look past the blog's personal opinions.

Afterwards, I managed to get the full study and I put a link to it. You would have found the link if you scrolled to my comment below.

Also, thanks for sharing the formal commentary.

Yeah, I understand why linking the blog made sense. I also saw you link the full study after I posted. The issue is that most people are not going to see that, and will take the blog at face value. And let's face it, most people are going to read the title and already come to their own conclusion without even reading the blog in full, much less look for the study in the comments.

People should be smart enough to only consider the data given in the blog and look past the blog's personal opinions.

I think that's a bit too idealistic, to be honest. I think that's a great goal to try and get people to work towards. However, the fact of the matter is that most laypeople want someone to explain things to them. Sometimes that is not a big deal, if the blog/article does not try to editorialize so much. However, when there is a clear bias to the way the information is being presented, it crosses over into misleading territory.
