Which Nootropics are proven safe?

I've recently become interested in nootropics to help with gradschool.
So far I've tried L-theanine and caffiene. Wow.
Soon I will try phenibut, pricetcam, and some others.
I've had some dangerous experiences with research chemicals in my past and I've made a point since then, of only sticking to drugs that have a long history of human use (or are fda approved).
All of these nootropics are in general MUCH safer than other chemicals I've experimented with, but still it seems some of these nootropics are new enough that they could basically be considered research chemicals.
I should do some more research on the topic myself, but I was hoping to get some opinions as to which nootropics could be considered extremely safe and which Nootropics less so.
Thanks

The FDA does not approve supplements or nootropics. They don't even acknowledge the term nootropic. Also, FDA approval does not automatically mean safe.
There are a lot of nootropics out there that have a long history of human use. However, any compound can have adverse effects in certain people. Making a list of things that people consider safe is simplifying things too much. Always do your own research, and realize the inherent risks in trialing things.
