Could 5-HTP cause lingering side effects?

Taking 5-HTP without a peripheral aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase inhibitor can certainly cause stomach issues. That is because that enzyme converts the 5-HTP to serotonin before passing the blood brain barrier. Since serotonin cannot cross the BBB, and is used as a modulator of various stomach functions, those elevated peripheral levels can throw things off. That is why I either recommend not using 5-HTP for extended periods, and always taking EGCG with it when you do.
