When taken without dopaminergic stimulants, I think NASA lends itself to a subtle alertness and mild stimulation. That can aid in wakefulness, but not in the more dramatic and distinct ways that adrenergics or eugeroics (e.g., modafinil) can; it's harder to stay awake for extended periods purely on NASA than those other substances, though NASA will certainly aid you when combined with some stimulants to the extent that it potentiates them. I think that the primary stimulating aspects of NASA come from stacking it with other substances, which have led some users to feel overstimulated because they don't account for the potentiation by lowering their dosages. By the way, I've pulled a few all-nighters on NASA paired with other substances so far, trying to ascertain the parameters of its effects, and I think this is a reasonable evaluation of the wakefulness-promoting and stimulating aspects of NASA.
Probably NASA's best and most unique uses are its ability to spike BDNF for 20-24 hours, and that present-ness and clear-headedness we've discussed, which seems to last about 5-7 hours. I think this is related to the two psychoactive fragments comprising semax. For a bit more commentary on this, check out /u/MisterYouAreSoDumb's post here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nootropics/comments/2v0tm7/nacetyl_semax_amidate/codnjk3 .
