Memantine Safety

I ordered some memantine from one of our favorite vendors here and was eager to start it, hoping it might help with a few issues.
It sounds incredibly powerful and had me a little nervous, so I searched the forum history.
I came across this (http://www.reddit.com/r/Nootropics/comments/2mh1s0/memantine_completely_cured_my_tinnitus/) in which OP has a mental breakdown and akathisia and is hospitalized.
What are we looking at here? Is memantine as safe as is required for the "nootropic" label?
If I start this, exactly how bad will my mental breakdown be? 6/10?

I'm eager to try it but that half life... If something does go wrong...
What does "depersonalization" feel like? The kind you get from memantine?

It's not fun. Your motor controls are affected, and you certainly cannot drive a car safely. There is just kind of a muted cloudiness to your thoughts, which can make your mood a little shitty.
