You're right, I actually mentioned that in an above comment. Though that happens, I don't really think that's going to be long lasting upon cessation.. that's why I don't mention much long-lasting memory ailment.
For instance as well, cannabis induces LTD and decreases dendritic spine density. As we've seen from the paper on AMPAkines & their synaptic pruning effect + my conversations with my unis neuroscientists, LTD/pruning is a beneficial thing for memory overall.

Then how do you explain the lasting memory issues many long-term cannabis users report? Pruning is definitely good in many cases. However, I do not think that is the main mechanism for the reported memory issues. I have a feeling it is a similar mechanism to long-term tolerance to opiates and stimulants. That would be down-regulation of immediate early gene expression, mediated by the NMDA receptors. That would explain the lasting memory issues.
