Are amphetamines supposed to be THIS relaxing?

Original post in this thread

Today, I took my first dose of vyvanse which was prescribed due to depression, a large part of which for me manifests with cognitive issues. I started with 40 mg.

I've heard so many stories about feeling wired on amphetamines. This is nothing like I expected: I don't feel wired at all, I just feel deeply, deeply relaxed, yet focused and not at all sedated. Time feels like it's going half-speed, and my breathing is deep and slow. I've always been a very tense and neurotic person, but this... It's just so peaceful and carefree.

I'm extremely reluctant to take amphetamines more than very occasionally due to tolerance, withdrawal and potential long term effects. I see a lot of abuse potential in this - I feel a nice, loving warmth in my chest - like Kratom - and music sounds amazing. I want to dance, not study, or just close my eyes and listen to music all day. I can't wait for the crash this evening.

I've got either nothing or terrible side effects from almost all the other antidepressants and nootropics I've tried. For what it's worth, anti-anxiety things almost always put me in a sedated stupor. But I'm wondering if this reactions says anything about my physiology that may be…

They used to prescribe amphetamines for depression, then cracked down on it some because of the potential for abuse. It's still legal to prescribe it off-label for depression, though, and some doctors and psychiatrists will still do so when they've tried enough other drugs with no success.

For sure. It's just something you do not see a lot of doctors doing.
