Reddit Nootropics Testing (Next Round)

Original post in this thread

Well, it seems like it is that time again. The holidays are over, my shoulder has healed from surgery, and I at least have a little extra time to get back into the swing of things. So I say it is time we pick the next round of nootropics to purity test.

The first one on my list is heavy metals testing for Himalaya brand bacopa. They have been very sketchy with me asking them for their testing, and stopped responding to me altogether when I mentioned that they were selling their "India only" version of bacopa in the United States. I have a strong feeling that there are high lead levels in their product. We shall know soon enough.

Second, I think that given the recent reports, we need to test some of Nootrabiolab's products. There have been reports on Longecity of fake product going out, but they were limited and not proven. Now that we are getting more reports of issues, I think testing is definitely warranted. Should it be the sunifiram that has popped up as an issue recently?

I think that we should pick another two products on top of the first two to be in this round. What does everyone think they should be? Are there any other recent adverse reactions to any products that I h…

So it accumulates lead from the water? Or the soils?

This is an interesting problem. Often, when plants accumulate heavy metals like lead (also arsenic, cadmium, mercury, etc.) the toxic metals are usually present in the plant's environment. Often as a result of geologic or man-made (industrial) pollution. In less-regulated countries, it is not uncommon for medicinal plants to be grown in lands that are routinely flooded with sewage effluent or industrial waste runoff.

I don't know if I really want to be consuming something that grows in toxic waste.

It sounds like these countries need some serious hazardous waste regulation and enforcement of food supplement manufacturing standards. Lead poisoning isn't something to take lightly. Neither is arsenic, mercury, etc. And they tend to travel together in industrial waste.
