Nootropics on a developing brain

Original post in this thread

Hi everyone! I've been experimenting with nootropics a little bit in the past year or so and I must say I really enjoy the effects I've seen so far. The nootropics I have tried have been Modafinil, Caffeine + L-theanine, Nicotine and piracetam + choline. And as far as drugs go, adderall.

So I started college this fall and have been dramaticly increasing my usage of, mostly, adderall, modafinil and caffeine + L-theanine. I just can't seem to get anything done if I'm not on anything. But this increase in usage has scared me a little bit as I am still 19 years old and my brain is still developing.

So what I'm wondering is if anyone of you guys have any clue what negative effects this nootropics/adderall-consumption could have on my developing brain. I haven't really found any real studies on the matter but you guys might have or maybe you have noticed any positive/negative long term effects on yourselves through personal usage during you brain-developing years.

can damage the brain

What exactly do you mean here? I thought only extremely high doses of modafinil are neurotoxic and getting to that level would be taking 4500mg+? The only neurotoxic thing I see is the Adderall/Amphetamine use he has going on. Which by the way OP, Adderall is actually bad for your brain, it causes damage that is thought to be irreversible over long time spans.

This might be worth a look.

If you want to reduce damage caused by Adderall usage, here's a longecity thread on it.

Here's an excerpt you might want to look at:

Concerns have been voiced that, in addition to neurobiological adaptations, prolonged exposure to amphetamine could damage components of the central nervous system. These concerns arise, in part, from evidence that exposure of experimental animals to acute, high doses of amphetamine or methamphetamine produces damage, generally referred to as “neurotoxicity”, to dopaminergic neurons innervating the dorsal striatum (caudate-putamen). The evidence for neurotoxicity in rodents derives almost exclusively from studies utilizing very high parenterally administered doses of the drugs, typically administered in a “binge” pattern; i.e., four successive injections at 2-hr intervals 41, 42. Yeah, I was more meaning the amphetamines were damaging to the brain. The others can lead to adrenal fatigue.

It's time to have the Modafinil talk again.

It's been seven months since I made this post: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nootropics/comments/199n7l/modafinil_posts/ We had a lull in the modafinil posts for a while, but now they are back in full swing. I just want to re

Here to warn the community that I've experienced debilitating rebound anxiety when taking l-theanine. It was 100 percent this substance. Quit a week ago and back to baseline. Theanine is going in the trash.

Talk to him about it. Modalet is just Modafinil. It is a lot safer than the Amphetamine he is on for ADHD. However, he should make sure you are okay with everything he is doing. You are his parent, afterall. But you need
