Why Do Certain Drugs Cause Bruxism?

With MDMA though, alpha(2)-adrenoceptor agonism may be a contributing factor too: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15056109

True. However, the alpha(2)-adrenoceptors are G protein receptors that indirectly lead to an increase in calcium transmission through ion channels. The actual end result mechanism is what I was talking about. This is why magnesium supplementation helps mitigate the bruxism from MDMA.
One could attack the issue from the other side too. Although I am not sure what other downstream effects would happen from blockage of the alpha(2)-adrenoceptors.
