Had a very bad episode of paranoia with a 200 mg modafinil dose and five cups of black tea. Never had paranoia before mixing it with caffeine

I actually got some anxiety from it a few weeks ago. I never have issues in small places. However, one morning I had to wake up early for an MRI. I took a modafinil and had some coffee, and I started freaking out in the MRI. I almost pushed the button to be pulled out, but I kept it together. That has never happened before, so it was strange. I was totally logical the whole time, but my body and brain just wouldn't listen. Probably not a good idea to take stimulants before being cocooned into an MRI chamber.

What is the best nootropic for someone looking primarily for a boost of energy and motivation that's stronger than caffeine but less extreme than amphetamines?
