No, I think that we should strive to be better, but shouldn't complain about reaching the ceiling. There is a ceiling. It bothers me when people complain about the advantages that they already have not being enough.
I watched my grandfather rapidly decline due to Alzheimer's. I'd rather they keep working on preventing illness than trying to give you a few extra vanity points on your I.Q. score.

How can you say there is a ceiling, when we don't even fully understand all the mechanisms behind our cognition? Until the day comes when we have fully mapped out how the human brain gathers, processes, and stores information, we must keep pushing the envelope. To do that, we need to not only study those with disorders, but also study healthy humans. We need to understand how healthy brains operate, so we can compare and contrast the deficits seen in those that are less fortunate.

Who says that increasing your cognitive ability is just for vanity?!? Tell that to all the neuroscientists that have worked their lives to try and find cures for diseases like Alzheimer's! Using the knowledge that has come before us to help increase our own cognition can only be beneficial to the cause. The smarter we can make ourselves, the faster we can learn about how to improve upon what we already know. I say striving to make the smart smarter is just as worthy of a cause as preventing the healthy from decline.
