Dedicated Nootropic Research Lab

Think it would be possible to setup, maintain and fund a small research lab dedicated to the study and development of more effective nootropic compounds?
I'm thinking if a few competent people collaborate in one of the several DIY bio labs around the world (e.g. biocurious.org, biohackers.la) they could at least test various compounds on cultured cells of various tissue types, or maybe even Drosophila models. I'd be willing to donate regularly for something like this if results were useful.

Interesting story:
There is a laboratory for sale not more than a mile from the loft I just bought, and I have been playing around with the idea of buying it and doing something similar.
Donations welcome.
