Long-term effects of dopamine-increasing agents

Original post in this thread

Say you take stimulant X (X = caffeine, modafinil, etc) regularly for a period of weeks, months, years. The short-term effects involve upregulation of dopamine, increasing wakefulness, concentration, and motivation.

What about long-term effects?

For example, could your dopamine-producing ability while off the drug (after the period of being on it) be lessened? Another question: could the short-term benefits help act as a catalyst for long-term brain plasticity changes? E.g. say you're learning a skill while on one of these stimulants; when going off the stimulant, the skill remains, and supposedly the short-term effects helped you save time in learning it.

Interested to hear your thoughts, apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered to death.

Just FYI - modafinil doesn't act on dopamine receptors, at least not strongly.

It does have DA and NE affinities, but they are much lower than traditional dopaminergic stimulants.

It's time to have the Modafinil talk again.

It's been seven months since I made this post: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nootropics/comments/199n7l/modafinil_posts/ We had a lull in the modafinil posts for a while, but now they are back in full swing. I just want to re

Here to warn the community that I've experienced debilitating rebound anxiety when taking l-theanine. It was 100 percent this substance. Quit a week ago and back to baseline. Theanine is going in the trash.

Talk to him about it. Modalet is just Modafinil. It is a lot safer than the Amphetamine he is on for ADHD. However, he should make sure you are okay with everything he is doing. You are his parent, afterall. But you need
