When most people think of nootropics, and even when studies of efficacy are done we seem to look for immediate effects.

The effects of drugs like piracetam, choline, sulbutiamine, and caffeine are great, but seem to have an effect (almost exclusively) on receptors and neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, dopamine, and gaba. Such has previously been the case as well for drugs that treat mood and attention disorders. People are given SSRIs to increase the amount of serotonin in the synapse. Children are given Adderall to increase the amount of dopamine, among other neurotransmitters. These drugs are created to address short term issues. One may say, once your brain chemistry is maxed, you will be better able to pay attention, stay focused, memorize, ect and then you can improve on the effects to form new habits and behaviors. That is certainly true. However, I think we can have something grander than this.

In order to make any significant, positive, long term changes to the brain itself we need to focus on drugs, nutrients, growth factors, and…
