Curiosities About L-Theanine's Anxiolytic Properties

First, I've got to say, I love this stuff. It practically turns me into a calm, focused extrovert...the first few times. Tolerance seems to rapidly develop.
Now I know L-Theanine isn't a GABA agonist, but it does increase GABA production. ... at least in animal studies. GABA is an agonist of its own receptor, naturally.
Theoretically, something like this would happen.
L-Theanine --> Increased GABA production --> increased binding of GABA to its receptors --> downregulated GABA receptors
The last part's a (not-really) educated guess on my part. How would the increased production not lead to indirect agonism of the GABA receptors? Any info you guys have is much appreciated.
