Is 5-HTP worth taking for improving mood or sleep?

I'm thinking about trying 5-HTP, but I'm not sure about the effects. My desired effect would be to brighten my mood. I don't have anxiety or depressions or anything like that. So would that work? I'd only take it occasionally, maybe once or twice a week tops, I think.
How about sleep? I've seen a lot of people take it at night to improve sleep. This strikes me as strange since you can easily take Melatonin to bypass the synthesis step. Is there any other difference I'm not seeing?
How about health and uptake? I've read that most of the 5-HTP is metabolized to Serotonin in the gut without ever passing the BBB. And too much Serotonin can lead to heart problems. So taking a l-amino acid decarboxylase inhibitor is recommended. Does EGCG work in this regard?
What are your experiences with 5-HTP especially related to mood improvements?

L-Trypothan. Sorry. I'm trying to understand what effects the EGCG will have on the consumption of these amino acids. I've done a bit of reading online but I couldn't find much. Sorry this reply is incredibly late.

Ohh, no. You only need EGCG with 5-HTP. If you are just taking L-tryptophan, then it's already rate limited by tryptophan hydroxylase.
