New drug being developed using compound found in red wine 'could help humans live until they are 150'

What they were answering

My understanding is that the effects of resveratrol are not exaggerated but there is the problem of getting a dosage that we can get all the benefits from. When they show studies of mice eating the equivalent of e all fast food diet in addition to living 15% long life spans, they did not mention that they gave them dosages that are about 25% of the animals body weight.

I tried looking for the source but could not find it, if anyone can exercise their google fu / pubmed fu better than I. I would appreciate that

mice that were given a dose of 200 or 400 mg/kg/day (mpk) of RSV administered in either a chow diet or high fat (HF) diet for 15 weeks.

200*4/37 = 21.6mg/kg

400*4/37 = 43.2mg/kg

So that would mean that I would have to take between 1.7g and 3.5g of resveratrol per day to see the same effects. Most doses I see people taking range from 100mg to 500mg. So it's doable. However, most people are not going to pay the high price for multi gram daily resveratrol regimens.

First off, Saint John's Wort, or it's active ingredient hyperforin, does not rely on it's MAOI activity to alleviate depression. It increases extracellular sodium levels, which signals the 5-HT receptors to up-regulate.
