Haha, final verdict? Will there ever be one for anything?
I've been reading more about vinpocetine lately, and it seems promising in regards to preventing oxidative stress. This study was interesting, because it showed that higher doses of vinpocetine led to more cell death. Here is a pic.
So it would seem that it's protective ability are dosage related, with higher doses being less effective.
Here is a study showing that it protects against calcium toxicity in the hippocampus.
This study showed that it improved neuronal membrane function.
This study showed that it increased cerebral blood flow, and showed improvement in cognitive ability in human subjects with mild cognitive impairments.
So I don't believe it's a final verdict, but it looks like a promising substance if dosage is properly adhered to. That being said, I have not tried it. Others will have to chime in with some anecdotes.
