I mean, it has been owned by L Catterton, the investment arm of Luis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, for 3 years. They fired their whole scientific team 2.5 years ago. We knew a guy that worked on their scientific team for 15 years that was cut when the new ownership came in. Thorne's fate was sealed years ago. This was just a profit move for L Catterton. It seems to have worked. They bought it for $700M 3 years ago, and just sold for $3.5B. Cutting science and jobs increases profits, I guess....

This is what private equity does. They buy up companies with trusted names, come in and cut a bunch of the shit that made the companies trusted in the first place, which lowers overhead costs. They then do big marketing
