Yeah, that's a protein subunit vaccine. They just inject you with the spike protein to try to train your immune system. The mRNA ones deliver instructions to have your body make the spike protein itself. It does seem like a good way to go about it. The issue is with coronaviruses themselves. They just mutate so quickly, and they mutate at the areas your immune system targets to find and attack them. This makes creating a vaccine to give long-term immunity to a bunch of strains almost impossible.
