Apparently if you disable some sort of AI setting in Google/gmail, it disables that promo/social/updates inbox feature... so that might be your answer. I haven't tested it myself though, so grain of salt and all that.
EDIT: Couldn't find any sort of setting aside from disabling the different inboxes individually and I don't have Gemini activated so it isn't that. Idk, fake news maybe, but it also wouldn't surprise me anyway.
EDIT 2: ADD rabbit hole, google has a mostly non-helpful article about it. Replying to an email or sending an email to gorilla mind puts them in your primary, potentially.

Well most promotional emails still go into those folders for me, but some brands' emails don't.
