Does this make any sense on magnesium threonate?

If I take it before 2pm, it gives me GI uneasiness and more frequent trips to the loo. If taken after 3pm, I have no issue. I also handle it better without food than with food. It’s also the only form of magnesium that prevents my migraines at a very effective rate. What to do?

I’ve tried other forms of magnesium (magnesium glycinate, citrate, malate, and oxide. They all appear to be partially effective for migraine prevention but not as effective as magnesium threonate. Perhaps the others also end up in the brain at some point but not as fully and effectively as magnesium threonate? You bring up an interesting point that threonic acid could be helping too. That led me just now to search for a threonic acid but I don’t see one. Isn’t threonic acid just simply a vitamin c metabolite? As for the CoQ supplement you mention, is it any different than the regular CoQ?

Threonic acid is not sold or stable by itself, which is why it is formed into salts with minerals like magnesium. It dissociates in the body, so the idea magnesium L-threonate is the only one that reaches the brain is just marketing BS. It just becomes magnesium and threonic acid in the blood. Micromag will reach the brain as well, and likely in higher amounts because the sucrosome is an active absorption mechanism that leverages the lymphatic system for transport. The unique thing that magnesium L-threonate does is provide threonic acid. However, as you said, you could take a good vitamin C and let it metabolize into threonic acid instead.
Here is what I would suggest:
Micromag: https://nootropicsdepot.com/micromag-capsules-optimized-magnesium/
Infini-C: https://nootropicsdepot.com/infini-c-capsules/
Infini-B: https://nootropicsdepot.com/infini-b-capsules/
CoQSol-CF: https://nootropicsdepot.com/coqsol-cf-coenzyme-q10-softgel-capsules-100mg-coq10/
That is a very simple stack that should be super effective for you. No, it is not marketing hype on the CoQSol-CF thign. It really does absorb and work better than standard CoQ10. Many people have reported immediate positive effects on their headaches with this stack. The vitamin C will increase glutathione, and metabolize into threonic acid. The B2, B6, and B12 will also help, in addition to the magnesium and CoQ10 reaching the brain.
