I rarely ever have to pay any additional import tax, I've been lucky I guess. Will DPD likely add 20-30 percent to the cost of everything?

It's country and product specific. For example, Luxembourg only charges 3% on foodstuffs, which most of our products fall into. However, if you buy a scale from us, that would be 16%, as they assess that product category higher. Other countries are different. Spain is 10%. Whichever country you are located in the EU will determine how much is assessed.
The big issue is that the EU is about to flip a switch, and basically begin stopping any package that did not prepay duties and taxes, then charge the customer at clearance. This will make the shipping take a lot longer, as it will have a separate manual clearance section that will get bogged down easier. It will also take time to reach out to the customer and get the duties paid, adding more time. On top of that, they will add a manual processing fee to the whole transaction. This means that packages to the EU will soon take longer, cost more, and have more headache. Us switching to DDP will take the headache out of paying for the duties, speed things up, and eliminate the manual fees. DDP packages will fly through the prepaid clearance section instead of getting held up for inspection and having duties assessed directly with the customer.
