Does Pyroglutamic Acid increase Glutamate?
Original post in this thread

I’ve seen it mentioned that it increases gaba but I’ve seen some folks argue in other subs whether it raises glutamate and I can’t sort it out.
While we’re here, any idea what’s the dose range or max dose?
Any potential downside for L-Pyroglutamic Acid or interactions to be aware of?
Thanks

Pyroglutamic acid has been shown to release GABA from the cerebral cortex, and displays anti-stress effects in a simple approach-avoidance conflict situation in rats. In clinical pharmacology experiments, pyroglutamic acid significantly shortens the plasma half-life of ethanol during acute intoxication, which is why we have it in our Alcohol Defense product. Pyroglutamic acid can convert to glutamate through the enzyme 5-oxoprolinase in an ATP-dependent reaction as well. It's a complex amino acid!
