Smell of kerosene in the product?

Does the Nigella Sativa 5% capsules generally smell like kerosene and motor oil? I Googled and it's supposed to have a pleasant fruity smell. I bought some from Nootropics Depot and it came with the seal broken / completely missing. I think I should dispose of it and try another? I am paranoid when I try a new supplement.

Nobody in their right mind would describe Nigella sativa as pleasant and fruity. If you smell one like that, it ain't Nigella sativa. It's full of volatile aromatics; the main one being thymoquinone. We are talking benzene/alkylbenzene/cyclohexane compounds that give all sorts of strong smells and flavors. Our 5% is very strong. The 10% is insanely strong. You will get a lot of aromatic notes in there of wood, spice, pine, and I guess some might get notes of hydrocarbons. Kerosene is the first fuel fraction after distillation of benzene from crude oil, and kerosene can contain some benzene, so I could maybe see how one would equate them. However, smell them side by side and you will certain tell the difference. One is a volatile cyclized ring system, where the other is a hydrocarbon chain. Your nose can tell the difference. However, the beneficial aromatic compounds in Nigella sativa are benzene/hexane based, so equating them isn't unreasonable. The one this it is not is fruity.
