I live in Los Angeles, metaphorically down the street from the Budweiser brewery in Van Nuys that contract brews the Kirin for our market. I've also spent, cumulatively about 12 months in Japan over the course of my lifetime, drinking lots of Kirin, and I can definitively state that it tastes better in Japan. Now whether or not that's because I'm drinking it while strolling a promenade in the midst of a fireworks festival that will blow your mind is another matter entirely.

Ohh, 100%! That's the same for most larger beers. Any AB Inbev brew tastes much better in its home country in smaller batches. Pilsner Urqell in the Czech Republic is so delicious! Guiness in Ireland and the UK is much better. Even Stella is better in Belgium. Scaling up beer into larger batches, especially in the massive sizes that AB Inbev does, always makes the flavor change. Even going from a 10 barrel to a 200 barrel brewing system you can tell the difference in flavors. You have to adjust recipes for the larger volume, and that can be a trial and error process. When you only care about money, you don't spend that time to get the flavor exactly right. I've home-brewed for years, and been to a LOT of breweries around the world!
