Difference between free shipping and 2 day Fedex?

I used to buy from Nootropics depot many years ago and was under the assumption that the free shipping option was still going through USPS. So I've been paying the $10 Fedex 2-3 day shipping option since USPS doesn't deliver to my current address (UPS and Fedex do). Recently I came across a post on here that said that the free option now is Fedex 2-3 day. My orders are always over $50 btw. Am I missing something here? Have I paid shipping several times for something I could've gotten for free? Thanks for any info on this :)

Admittedly I accidentally paid for the FedEx option on a recent large order. It happens. Would be nice if the ND checkout would auto-fix it so it doesn’t happen but I’m sure they enjoy the free money every once in a while.

We would if we could, but Bigcommerce doesn't allow us to remove a shipping option if a cart value is reached. We have asked them for that capability for years, but so far it has not been implemented. I wish we had more flexibility in how things are displayed in the checkout process, too. They tell me we should have a bit more flexibility when we move to optimized one page checkout, which should be any day now. We are just waiting on the cryptocurrency integration to be approved and enabled. That's been YEARS of asking that finally we were able to help get programmed. They just need to approve it in the app store and we can migrate to the new optimized checkout system.
