Warning to anybody who shops at ND - Even if you pay for premium shipping, you will be charged EXTRA money at customs for your shipment to get through the border.

That's the Canadian government for you. It's also our government's fault as well, since they let NAFTA expire without a successor. Then they passed the USMCA. However, Canada was upset at us over steel tariffs and other stupid shit we were pulling, so they did not sign the USMCA. This means the trade agreement defaulted back to their normal rules. This meant the de minimis became really low, and duties and taxes are assessed on the shipping cost as well. It's shitty, but that's your government's rules and how they are playing things right now. We have absolutely no control over how the Canadian government chooses to assess duties and taxes on goods entering Canada. We do everything we can to limit how much the total adds up to. However, we can't go too crazy with that or your customs starts rejecting shipments into the country for unrealistic declarations. The unfortunate part is that the Canadian government takes the shipping cost into equation for calculating the total, so using an express service means you are more likely to pay duties and taxes. Standard shipping with smaller orders tends to get through customs without being inspected or assessed duties. It's the luck of the draw, though. You never know which packages they will stop to assess duties on.
