I was excited because you talked about how it is better absorbed on empty stomach. I wasn't aware it was because of polysorbate 20.
Researching about it tells me it is a carcinogen. Plus, I remember a similar vitamin D product that contained it, or something similar, and I remember reading that such strong synthetic emulsifiers damage the lining of the intestines long term.

It's not a carcinogen... I see blogs conflating things in an unscientific manner, but no evidence polysorbate 20 is a carcinogen. They all talk about how polysorbate 20 is sorbitol treated with ethylene oxide, which they say is a carcinogen. Polysorbate 20 is not ethylene oxide just because that is used in the process, just like table salt is not chlorine because it is a combination of sodium and chloride. We can't conflate things used in the production process as the end product. Ethylene oxide is a carcinogen. Polysorbate 20 is not. It's all a bunch of "all natural" companies that try to make people fear certain things that are perfectly safe by misusing science. Also, what you read about in regards to "damage" from strong emulsifiers to the stomach was with polysorbate 80, not 20. It doesn't damage it, either. It can alter the amount of mucous in some people, which can adversely affect inflammation in those with IBS and similar disorders. Again, that's polysorbate 80, not 20. Polysorbate 80 is oleic acid, where polysorbate 20 is lauric acid. Polysorbate 20 is completely safe, and is recognized as safe by not only the FDA, but the much more strict ESFA and the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA).
