I was excited about this new product, until I saw polysorbate 20 listed as an ingredient.

Well then you couldn't have been very excited, because polysorbate 20 is the entire reason it has higher bioavailability. Without that you might as well just take regular fish oil. It is a pharmaceutical grade nonionic surfactant. This means it has a hydrophobic base structure with covalently bonded oxygen-containing hydrophilic groups that lead to it being able to form stabilized water emulsions from things that are lipid-based. That's the entire benefit of Accelon. That's what the SMEDS technology is, or self-micro-emulsifying delivery system. Rather than forming larger less-digestible/absorbable droplets of oil, Accelon immediately forms a micro-emulsion in the stomach, which facilitates it's improved bioavailability. The polysorbate 20 is crucial for that process, as it is providing the solubilizing action due to the hydrogen bonding on the molecule. Without polysorbate 20, there is no Accelon.
Why are you worried about polysorbate 20?
