It's great! So FedEx has been trying to woo us for years. They would always come into our offices to try and win our business over. We would always tell them it was not the right time, but make them give us little FedEx model planes and trucks and shit. LOL. My strategic director has a little collection in his office. FedEx was always just too expensive. Well we started having issues with UPS last year. It was mainly inbound, but some outbound as well. The biggest issue was that they kept delivering our incoming packages to the building next door. We tried so many times to get them to fix it, and they just couldn't. So that's when we reached back out to FedEx and told them to make us an offer we couldn't refuse, and we would consider moving the bulk of our business over to them. They came back with a really good contract. It costs us more than we pay at USPS or UPS. However, they were giving us delivery guarantees built into our contract. We figured that we could absorb the cost if it meant getting things to customers faster. It was a good thing we did, as we signed it all before COVID-19 happened. When that shit hit the fan, all the carriers removed their delivery guarantees and had things slow down. However, we have them mandated in our contract with FedEx, and were grandfathered in because they wanted our business. This meant that we were not subject to the removals of their delivery guarantees. They also stopped offering those contracts to any business because of the pandemic. So even if you wanted to sign a contract with FedEx now, they won't do it. We got lucky by signing our contract with FedEx at the right time, and having clauses in there to ensure things stayed fast. Some customers have even reported that their package was delivered by a personal vehicle. Since they have these guarantees with us, they have to ensure things get there quickly. So they actually sometimes do special delivery runs just for our packages to maintain that speed. Pretty nuts!
Also, when I started this company I knew getting things out as fast as possible was one of my main goals. I hate waiting for shit I order online, so I know everyone else does, too. So when I was picking our facilities for us, I made sure we were close to all possible shipping partner locations. The FedEx distribution hub is literally around the corner from our facility. We have always been able to ship things quickly. Getting things out the door ASAP has been a thing for us since day one. However, we were always at the mercy of the carriers after that. However, with the FedEx distribution facility being around the corner, it allows us to get our packages into the system and moving about as fast as humanly possible. Pair that with the contract we have with them, and you can get some insanely fast shipping times. I honestly don't think we can get any faster than this. This is peak for what an efficient order shipping process can be. The fact that we did it all during a pandemic, when some shit I order online is taking months to get to me, is pretty impressive! Obviously this is only for domestic. We are still improving our international, but that is a whole other beast with its own set of challenges.
