I'm sure you have already used the extract. So my question is: when is the best time to take it (the shoden)? I first tried ashwagandha when I bought root bark and made tea with it, which I drank before bed, which gave me really good sleep. Then, when I talked about it to my father, he got interested and bought an extract from Biovea. I took it for a while, and it seemed less effective than the root bark tea. Then when I discovered Nootropics Depot, I also discovered KSM-66 and sensoril, which I both tried. My body really didn't agree with sensoril; it made me restless. I had great hopes with KSM-66 since it was made only from the roots, so I thought it would be similar to root bark tea, but everytime I took it before bed I could barely sleep that night. So I ended up giving up on ashwagandha, thinking it wasn't good for me. But I really liked the effect of the root bark tea; on top of making me sleep really good, it made me horny with incredible erections and orgasms. I wish I could find an extract with the same effects. Now that I'm working out again maybe I could try taking KSM-66 in the morning and expect to get benefits without it ruining my sleep. Better than waste it. Been opened, in my cupboard, for at least 2 years, but it probably still is good.

Damn that ended up longer than expected.

Although there is this study on it.

A randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study to evaluate the effects of ashwagandha \(Withania somnifera\) extract on sleep quality in healthy adults

Results
A total of 144 subjects completed the study, with no dropouts due to adverse events. A 72% increase in self-reported sleep quality was found for the treatment group, compared with 29% in the placebo group (p < 0.001). Based on activity monitoring data, the treatment group showed significant improvement in sleep efficiency (SE) (p < 0.01), total sleep time (p < 0.001) and sleep latency (p < 0.01) and wake after sleep onset (WASO) (p < 0.05) versus placebo after six weeks. In the ashwagandha group quality of life (QOL) scores showed significant improvement in physical (p < 0.001), psychological (p < 0.001), and environment domains (p < 0.01).
Conclusions
Supplementation with the standardized ashwagandha extract for six weeks improved the overall quality of sleep by significantly improving the NRS condition in healthy subjects. No treatment related adverse events were reported in the study.
