I wanted to follow up on some the of discussion that had gone on regarding Polygala earlier this month with an anecdote after three and a half weeks of use. Hopefully it will be helpful to some and continue the experimentation with this fascinating plant.
Several Observations:
- Quick, moderate onset of antidepressant effects in the first few days of dosing
- Moderately stimulating
- Strong effect at relieving cognitive dysfunction due to depression (nootropic effect with depressed individuals)
- Has cumulative effects, which have continued to build over time
- Reverses Anhedonia
- No effect on anxiety at moderate dosages, may increase anxiety at high dosages
- May contribute to insomnia in those who are sensitive to stimulants
- Mixes well with other herbs and supplements
I began taking Polygala on July 14th after reading one of the threads about its unique pharmacology. From the start, there were antidepressive effects, and a lift in mood (although the mood boost could be unpredictable). This has become stronger over time, and there is less and less mood volatility the longer I take it. My guess is that the serotonin reuptake inhibition is beginning to hit its stride, and is…

Wow! That's surprising actually. I really thought he was one of the good ones. Well, I personally still do think he's one of the good ones, but I will definitely take this into consideration.
Still seems very strange as he has told me, personally, that he has sent shipments orders back because the quality was subpar and not up to his standard. This is more with reference to novel research molecules/previous group buys/etc. I've had orders in the past that were delayed because the product sent was not as pure as should have been. One time he actually refunded my entire order before it even made it to me because he was told the products packaging may have been compromised in transit. I don't really see someone taking a lick and a sniff and being like, " Yeah, no. Try it again." Yet still being in good standing with labs if it was entirely unsubstantiated and done so on a somewhat frequent basis?
Then again, things have changed since the start of the online store and towards a more main stream approach, so I dunno. While I completely agree that in-house purity testing done by the lab that did the synth is pretty much worthless because you can print out what ever the hell you want and say those were the results, is it at all possible that a vendor has a go to analytical lab (3rd party) in China? I suppose it may save a lot of time and money if it was sent and tested somewhere w…

He may be personally trying the product, and assessing if it is "good" or not. Also, some batches smell like solvent. So those are easy to reject with no testing. I've certainly immediately rejected batches that have come hard as a rock, smelling of solvents. I still run an analysis on them. However, I know right away we are not accepting it. You'd be surprised at just how shitty some batches arrive. We've had one that literally had liquid solvent still left in it. You could let the solvent drip out of the bag. How any supplier thinks that is okay to ship is beyond me. But rejecting batches can certainly happen without testing. I mean, the MK-677 HPLC he has up is from 2013... He previously had COAs posted that were the exact same as the ones I was given by a Chinese supplier. I spoke about it in great detail with the other mods, and he was even contacted by one of us about it. He told us that they trust their suppliers, and do not feel the need to test.
The issue I have is that without testing, people are putting themselves at risk. I know first hand just how dangerous some things can be from China. He sells things that currently have no validated testing methods or reference standards. I refuse to sell them because of that. Anyone can order bulk shit from China, repackage, then resell to people. That's easy. The hard part is ensuring things are exactly what they are supposed to be, and are pure. Customers do not take that seriously enough. So vendors HAVE TO. Those that don't are putting people at risk, and would be the exact opposite of what I would consider "one of the good ones." This is not something that can be chocked up to not knowing, as he has been made aware of the need for testing many times. He willingly chooses not to 3rd party test all his products. I don't really take kindly to vendors that do not test their products. It's dangerous, and bad for the community as a whole.
