As the title says what your unpopular opinions?
For me i don't think MDMA should ever be legalised due to its neurotoxicity.
And instead of MDMA the x-xapb compounds should be as they have a better safety profile.

I don't know what you mean by the word "actual". /u/misteryouaresodumb et al. have been debating the mechanisms for god knows how long now.

Nothing is proven yet. So people should refrain from absolutes when talking about the exact mechanisms. I believe the damage from MDMA is multi-faceted, and not as simple as a single compound leading to the toxicity. There is also a lot more than can happen than 5-HT system damage. Excitotoxicity, other oxidative stress, apoptosis, vasoconstriction, liver damage, etc.
6-APB in particular is super vasoconstrictive, and very hard on the body peripherally. Even if the 5-HT system damage is not as bad, or even absent, there could be a lot of other damage happening.
As to the assertion that MDMA's toxicity is overblown, that is total bullshit, and very harmful. It's under-blown, if anything. People need to take care of themselves when taking drugs. Making them seem harmless, and trivializing their risks, is bad for everyone. We have studies showing that enzyme depletion after MDMA lasts a month. That is just when your 5-HT production starts to get back to normal. That says nothing of the tolerance caused by IEG expression changes, or down-regulation of various receptors. If people want to lose the magic, by all means abuse this drug. However, smart people treat it properly.
