One of my optic nerves was paralyzed after ischemic stroke(s) 7ish years ago. I'm trying to understand BDNF and NGF. Will also take ideas about how to quantify progress with certain substances besides 'I can see better.' Currently testing noopept, left eye still wacky, but memory improving.

Semax to the rescue again!
Evaluation of therapeutic effect of new Russian drug semax in optic nerve disease
Addition of semax to therapeutic complex in patients with diseases of the optic nerve had a favorable impact on the intensity and rate of recovery and improved the visual functions. Semax effectively protected nervous tissue from aftereffects of injury, particularly during the acute stage of optic nerve disease: it stimulated positive changes in the clinical picture, which were evaluated by improvement of visual acuity, extension of the total visual field, increase in the electric sensitivity and conductivity of the optic nerve, and improvement of color vision.
Semax in the treatment of glaucomatous optic neuropathy in patients with normalized ophthalmic tone
A complex of neuroprotective therapy, including a new Russian neuropeptide semax, was used in the treatment of glaucoma patients with normalized ophthalmic tone. Electrophysiological and computer methods of examination demonstrated the advantages of new therapy over traditional neuroprotective treatment for glaucoma. The efficiency is due to pathogenetic activity of semax possessing both neuroprotective and neurotrophic effects.
A series of experiments, involving a tritium-marked "Semax", showed that the peptide actively penetrates into the brain and eyes of experimental animals after its intranasal administration. It was established, within a study aimed at determining the electrophoretic activity and stability of "Semax" in the electric field, that the preparation does not disintegrate in the electric field, it posses the electrophoretic mobility and moves, in the electric field, from plus to minus; therefore, the "Semax" solution must be fed from anode while making the electrophoresis procedure.
