Resveratrol improved memory in mice, when injected in the brain. The effects were lost on mice that did not have the Sirtuin 1 gene. SIRT1 is an enzyme that deacetylates proteins. Other studies have shown that resveratrol does not bind directly to the SIRT1 enzyme, but does lead to its up-regulation. This leads to enhanced binding of Lamin A to the SIRT1 enzyme. Reduced insulin resistance has been linked to SIRT1 down-regulation.
