What's the Consensus on Piracetam?

Original post in this thread

There seem to be an abundance of posts lately about how piracetam is "just placebo" and is "useless", whereas about 9-10 months ago when I first began reading this sub everyone raved about it and I could not wait to try it. I began taking piracetam over the summer. While I cannot say there are any profound effects, the visual enhancement that is commonly noted is undeniable. It varies in strength from day to day which I have not been quite able to understand, but I have a marked increase in appreciation for color and nature when I take piracetam. Lately, I've been studying some complicated stuff (graduate level quantum mechanics), and although this is clearly anecdotal, I have been finding that my comprehension is much greater than usual. I reader faster, and I just "get" things much quicker.

However, on the other hand, many people would likely argue that my above description is purely placebo, and that piracetam is useless. I'm just interested in seeing what most people think. Although piracetam isn't too expensive, it does cost money, and I'd rather not waste money on something most people are certain is not worthwhile. I will probably cycle off piracetam soon to see if I notic…

No, you have it backwards. It is called in inverse U response curve because your positive response to the dosage increases to a point, then decreases beyond it. This creates a hill shape, or an inverted letter U. The two extremes are not the most effective dosage, they are the least. That's pretty obvious, as one of the extremes is 0mg. By your explanation, everyone's most effective dose would be to just not take it. That, or to take ridiculously larges amounts. That is not the case.

The most ideal dosage lies somewhere in the middle of the curve. Everyone's response is different, so some curves will be steeper or more shallow than others. However, the general premise of the curve is pretty constant. You may see references to U shaped response curves in relation to racetams. However, that is usually dealing with piracetam's effect on morphine-induced prolactin secretion. That is not saying that positive responses to piracetam dosages are U shaped.
