I think I have the right subreddit, but correct me if I am wrong) I have A.D.D, and have documentation of it since 1987. My documentation runs out every 7 years, and I have always gone back for retesting, and have current documentation. Two years ago I started medication for the first time in my life. I understand it is a controlled medication, and regulated medication. Yearly blood work is needed to make sure my liver, thyroid, and metabolic functions are healthy. I have to go in every month to have my blood pressure, and weight are healthy, and to be asked if everything is OK. My doctor lately has been after me to take a urine test. I asked her what it was for, and she mumbled something about it being a controlled substance, and something about the Government. I asked her further, and she said (kine of generalized answer) "oh you know, your live, and just to make sure you are OK". This made no sense to me... I have yearly blood work done, and see them every month. I felt she was being very vague, and or not forthcoming with her answer. So I wanted to know why they want a urine test? Is it to see if I am abusing? (which I am not, and really could not be seeing as I am o…

Well a little on why I decided to try meds first to better understand how it changed things for me. I decided to try medication when I was taking a college biology course. I have A.D.D, and also dyslexia. I had learned cooping mechanisms during my childhood, and was able to get by until the subject matter became too difficult, because of how abstract it was. Normally it takes me more time than others to digest a chapter of materiel. The Krebs cycle was one I could not follow not matter how many notes I took, or how many tutoring sessions I went to. I knew the material was only going to get harder, and I needed some help. When I started taking my meds I not only read the chapter quicker, but only needed to read it, and take notes once, instead of 3 or 4 times (yes I would take the same notes from outlines 3-4 times to retain it) . Studying became easier, I still studied the same way I always did, and kept up on my work, but it took me less time (which was important because I have 5 children, a husband, and a household). I cleaned the home quicker, because I got less distracted. The downside is that I always got used to the dosage, and needed more. I try to take breaks from it to prevent myself from needing a higher does. When I take breaks I eat like crazy, and sleep like I have not slept in years. I need it to wake up in the morning, if I do not take it I just sleep…

You should look into memantine to help slow the tolerance buildup. Also, you should be taking a bioavailable magnesium supplement like magnesium glycinate or magnesium L-theonate. Those will both help modulate your gated calcium channels, which are the main site of long-term tolerance to amphetamines.
Also, if you are getting push back from your doctor and having trouble getting straight answers, look into another GP. They are supposed to be there to help you and explain things to you, not get suspicious and make you feel uncomfortable.
