Carnitine possibly linked to heart disease (from mass media)

Original post in this thread

Several articles are in the news linking red meat and energy drinks to heart disease via gut bacteria converting the compound Carnitine into TMAO (trimethylamine N-oxide).

I've not directly linked to any one the news stories because all that I've found have failed to note any of the benefits also linked to the consumption of L-Carnitine (search this sub or w'pedia, etc.)

So I suppose we should take this as a lesson to not get your health information solely from the mass media.

Lipid peroxides are considered to be the initiation factor for atherosclerosis. Present study depicts that L-carnitine treatment (300 mg/kg body weight/day) for 7 and 14 days caused significant reduction in the tissue lipid peroxidations. It also shows marked improvement in the antioxidant status. By this way carnitine maintain the normal function of the cells.

These results indicate that a modification of plasma lipemic pattern obtained by a long-term oral administration of PLC was associated with a decrease of plaque cell proliferation and severity of aortic atherosclerotic lesions.

You need to start tapering off it now! You are not using it properly, and are going to cause yourself harm. Tianeptine is hard on the liver at those dosages. It is not meant to be taken at 650mg/day. Your usage is irresp
