5-Methyl-MDA (infodump and request for experience reports) (x-post from /r/drugs)

There's not a lot of info out there on this drug, but I found a source for it, wanted to know more (like whether it's safe to use), and did what research I could. There's a very brief Wikipedia article, which gives a little bit of info, and a pretty-much-useless thread on Bluelight. It seems that about the only scholarly info on this compound is in this paper in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, which is paywalled (though I was able to access it through my university library proxy).

Here's a summary of the info I was able to glean from my searching:

Layman's info:
5MeMDA is an MDA derivative (duh) whose effects are supposed to include euphoria, empathogenic/entactogenic effects, and psychedelic effects; it is notably lacking in stimulant effects. It is also significantly more potent than MDA, with an active dose believed to be in the range of 15-25 mg (threshold dose likely around 5-10 mg).

More science-y stuff: (skip this if you don't care about how drugs work)
I say that the effects are supposed to include the above because I can't actually find a detailed, confirmed report of a human using it. The above in…

Could be interesting to try. I wouldn't personally, till more hard evidence is out.

If Sasha Shulgin had said this, we might not have ended up with the wonderful world of RCs that we have today. ;)

I'm definitely skeptical, but the lack of evidence is kind of spurring me on rather than discouraging me. I figure that, as long as I test to ensure that I don't end up with something outright dangerous, the worst that could happen is ... well, nothing. And even then, I'll have at least contributed a data point or five, so it won't have been entirely useless.

Perhaps if combined with a mild DA/NE stimulant it might show good effects.

Maybe some good old-fashioned amphetamine? It would contribute its own serotonin release, but then maybe one could use a lower dose of 5MeMDA and achieve satisfactory results. Of course, I'd try the novel chemical on its own before combining it with anything, but since both drugs are serotonin releasing agents, I believe there would be a minimal risk of serotonin toxicity. Hell, one might even be able to adjust the qualitative experience by varying the ratio of amphetamine and 5MeMDA. All assuming that 5MeMDA is active in humans, of course.

That's true, but I am not Sasha Shulgin. I'm grateful for what he did, but much of it was reckless with regard to his own safety. I'm not willing to risk my brain in that regard.

That's certainly not the worst that could happen. We don't know about it's pharmacodynamics in humans. We have no idea what it could be doing.

Amphetamine would work, especially since it's easy to get pharmaceutical grade. You might even be able to use something less potent, like ephedrine or PEA with an MAOI. You don't want to overwhelm it with dopamine, just give it enough to balance the 5-HT.
