What was the strangest excuse you used to be late for work that was actually legitimate?

I called into work late one morning because every car in the parking lot of my apartment building was egged (homecoming weekend) and I had to go through the car wash asap before the eggs solidified.

Was that when the volcano exploded in Iceland? I got stuck in Germany when that happened. I refused to give back my rental car and drove to Switzerland for a few days to chill! It was kind of nice actually!

Similar, but I flew to the wrong city in Canada. I got to the Avaya office in Toronto, but I was supposed to be in Montreal! I quick got into my rental car and drove as fast as I could to Quebec. After that, it was a hug

It's current policy in Chicago to not respond to non-violent crimes. There are actually signs in certain parts of the city. Too much violent crime and not enough police to handle it.
