Pregnenolone with Sorbitol issue.

Original post in this thread

Pregnenolone has become a foundational product in my stack, however I've discovered Sorbitol (a sugar alcohol sweetener) makes me itch to the point of distraction.

ND only offers it with Sorbitol, and knowing it's unlikely they'll produce a product just for rare cases like mine, I'd like to ask what brand(s) would those more knowledgeable than me recommend I try?

What they were answering

You missed the part where I said “I know this is due to the patents” and spent the majority of this explaining that, so thank you. You also can extra phopholipids from other things, like egg yolks to make “phytosomes”. I don’t know the feasibility, it’s just something I’ve read, and I do wish it were the case. I don’t personally want to consume sunflower lecithin.

I understand that it’s all processed, but there’s certain things that I try to avoid consuming and just wish there was a way around it. Maybe it’s not financially feasible, maybe it’s not even possible. I feel like you missed the whole point of what I even said.

I get it, all extracts are processed. I just don’t love added contents. I literally said that, it’s like you read half of what I wrote. I didnt know if it’s possible to offer ginger as a dried powder or why there was maltodextrin, so thank you for answering that at least. Maybe there’s something else you could bind it with? Maltodextrin from corn can have extra toxins like glyphosphate. Maybe I’m worrying for no reason, but I’m assuming you don’t test the maltodextrin you bind with.

You picked out every negative part that you could pick on instead of even answering the issues like just offering powders to avoid sweeteners. Why are you so mad that I posed some questions regarding my personal gripe? Why try to belittle me like I didn’t already clarify half…

I'm not trying to belittle you, so I am sorry if it came across that way. I'm just frustrated at the situation itself, as I can't even count how many competitors of ours say stuff like "No fillers or excipients!" and then we test them and they contain both, just like 99% of all formulations do. It's the lying from competitors that frustrates me, and they do it because of a bunch of pseudoscientific influencers and blogs making people afraid of ghosts. It's easier for brands to lie on their labels than to explain things to customers. We never add anything unless we have to, because I don't like losing sales because some people freak out over seeing something on a label. I would rather add nothing in, so we could avoid this whole issue altogether. The issue is these things are needed and have a purpose. They also cost money, so there would be no reason for us to add them if we didn't need to. However, people act like we add stuff in for shits and giggles.

You also can extra phopholipids from other things, like egg yolks to make “phytosomes”. I don’t know the feasibility, it’s just something I’ve read, and I do wish it were the case. I don’t personally want to consume sunflower lecithin.

Phytosomes are made and controlled by Indena. They coined the term. They would have to reformulate using egg yolk phospholipids, but I am not even sure that is possible on a large scale. Then you get the people who are allergic to eggs. Why don't you want to consume sunflower lecithin? I get the soy lecithin thing. I don't agree with it, but I understand the argument. Did someone start saying things about sunflowers that I have not seen?

Maybe there’s something else you could bind it with?

You could use a cyclodextrin, but that is a dextrin made from corn as well. The spray drying process for an oil/resin like ginger only works with something that can encapsulate the ginger, like maltodextrin or cylodextrin.

Maybe I’m worrying for no reason, but I’m assuming you don’t test the maltodextrin you bind with.

We test everything we use, including our flavors. That testing panel does not include glyphosphate, though, as that's not an issue. Glyphosphate is washed off the corn before processing. I probably wouldn't eat corn that I hand picked out of a corn field in Kansas without washing it, but it is not an issue in downstream products like maltodextrin.

I'm just frustrated at all the pseudoscientific fear being spread around by people online for clicks. I saw a video the other day with a "doctor" saying she would never consume something with magnesium stearate and silica, and chooses products that use NuMag instead... NuMag is a rice hull product that is made up of... you guessed it... silica, magnesium, and stearic acid, in addition to sunflower lecithin. So instead of using silica and magnesium stearate at less than 2% to get the fill weights consistent and accurate, you use the same exact things in higher concentrations, but consumers act like it is fine because it says "rice hulls" on the label instead. So consumers are actually consuming MORE of those things, but they don't complain because the label doesn't scare them as much. Then consumers buy from brands doing no testing because they intentionally leave ingredients off the labels. So they consume products with fake and impure active ingredients because the brands lie about the other ingredients to make the consumers feel better. This is why I am so frustrated. It's not at you. It's at the industry itself.
