I want to add astragalus root supplement for kidney health and I am curious if this specific compound focusing on triterpenes is what I want or more of a “root” focuses supplement with a broad range of ingredients?

Astragaloside IV is absolutely beneficial for the kidneys. Just search Google Scholar and you will find a bunch of studies.
