In the fifth episode of the In Search of Insight podcast, your hosts Erika and Emiel will dive into an exciting conversation about one of Nootropics Depot’s most complex topics: how we create effective and synergistic supplement stacks. In this episode, we’ll discuss the origins of Nootropics Depot’s sister brand, Natrium Health, and the stack development process that goes into each Natrium product. We’ll also talk about two newly released Natrium products, Omegatau and Dynamax Plus. So now, it’s time for you to submit your questions on stacking supplements!

Have you ever thought about providing the option of ordering custom stacks at Nootropics Depot? I.e., picking and choosing what your stack should include and how much, just like at customizedstacks.com.

The ad hoc custom stack companies come and go all the time. They pop up for a couple years, then fail and shut down. The issue is cost. There is no economies of scale when doing small blends for individuals. To even get close to the cost/dose in manufacturing labor you need to be doing hundreds of thousands of capsules/tablets at a time. Preferably you would be doing millions of capsules/tablets at a time to reduce the cost enough to not make it too expensive. Trying to make small runs of very custom stacks for individuals is just not feasible. The ones that try always go out of business. What has happened lately is companies have shifted to a system were they have a few blends that they premake, and they essentially trick people into thinking they are getting a custom stack just for them. However, what they are doing is using questionnaires to shove people into columns based on what blends they think they will react best to. Then they pick one of the pre-made blends they have already made, and make it look like it is a custom blend for just that person. This allows them to make hundreds of thousands or millions of capsules/tablets, and keep the cost low per dose. If you do it right, and have enough variety of pre-made stacks to choose from, you can make it somewhat useful. However, it is not a real custom stack for each person. We have actually supplied raw materials to many of these custom stack companies over the years.
That being said, there is merit in giving people tools to decide which stack of things might work for them. That's the idea behind our buying guides and stack building guides we have. They might not be putting things into a single capsule/tablet together, but it helps people decide which products might work best for them. If you have not checked them out, take a look.

Our stack recommendation index specifically is a nice thing to help people come up with ideas on stacks for specific purposes.

You pick beginner, intermediate, or advanced, then pick the effect you are looking for. Then it gives you recommendations on products to combine into a stack for that purpose. I do want to take that a step further eventually, and have a questionnaire for people to help them even more. I think that is especially good for new people, as it can get overwhelming with all the available products out there. Giving people a little more hand-holding to help them figure out what to start with is a nice way to make that less daunting for newbies.
