AvailOm really “5x more bioavailable”?

Straight to the point:

That claim has been made multiple times.

However, I remember reading a post about how the comparison between the fish powder and regular fish oil was done on an empty stomach.

That’s a big difference, if it truly is the case, since fish oil is known to be more bioavailable when taken with a fat-containing meal.

Can anybody enlighten me?

Been interested in this as well. I don't understand the point of any of these novel fish oils if they aren't more bioavailable than normal fish oil with food

Even if they were not more bioavailable, having a fish oil that is a powder is novel in itself. Formulating things into softgels has a lot of limitations. You can't use water soluble things in those formulations, as the hygroscopic nature of them will break down the shell of the softgel, and will not result in even dispersion of the compounds in the solution inside the softgel. This means that you are limited to strictly fat soluble things in softgels. If you want to mix fat soluble and water soluble things, you are SOL. This is why having the fish oil in powder is an awesome thing, as we can take something super water soluble, like Alpha-GPC and mix it with a traditional oil compound like fish oil. Then you also have the improved stability of powders vs. oils. So even without improvements in bioavailability there is merit to it. The data does point to improvements in bioavailability, though.
