How come the magnesium glycinate says 800mg but when you look at the like listed thing on the label it says 200?

Could be a silly question but I’m not sure why the numbers are diff

Would be the difference between elemental vs total weight, meaning in 800mg Magnesium Glycinate there is 200mg elemental Magnesium, although if I recall right from another brand it was closer to 1100mg mag glycinate is 200mg elemental

Most brands are WAAAAAAY off on their Supplement Facts boxes. Fully chelated magnesium bisglycinate will be 12-14% elemental magnesium by mass. Any higher and you have a situation where they are buffering the product. This means they are adding more magnesium oxide to it to get the numbers up. However, that means it is not fully chelated. Lower than 12% and you have excess glycine. Not sure why they would be doing that, but maybe unreacted glycine for some reason. That one makes less sense. Having higher elemental magnesium just means they are adding in magnesium oxide to the mixture. You want to find one that is 12-14%, as that means it is fully chelated.
Magnesium has a molar mass of 24.305 Daltons. Gylcine has a molar mass of 75.07 Daltons. There are two glycine molecules for ever magnesium molecule when fully chelated. This means that you take 24.305 and divide it by 174.445 (75.07*2). This gives you a % of 13.93%.
