We were hit with another credit card fraud ring over the past couple days. They used a bot net to try thousands of stolen cards on our systems. However, we have multiple layers of protections to stop them now. This also means that sometimes people's cards get denied because they are caught up in the filters trying to protect us from these bad actors. The big issue with these types of attacks is that they inundate our processing bank with tons of fraudulent volume. Many times this sets off red flags and causes a bank to drop the account. Luckily we have a good relationship with our bank built up over years, so they actually pick up the phone and call us. However, other vendors are not so lucky. We spoke to our card processor about another small CBD vendor that also got hit by a bot net. They did not have the systems in place that we do to protect them. In addition to tens of thousands of dollars in product going out that was purchased with stolen cards, they had 20,000 attempted charges hit them overnight. This caused their processing bank to flag and drop them. So they lost their card processor because of the fraud ring, in addition to the lost product. It's really bad out there right now.
